With the EU PvP server merge and week of free character transfers coming at the end of the month there will be a lot of excitement at the possibilities. Not only do our friends in Europe who love PvP play in EQII get a new home and new challenges, but all players have the chance to relocate their characters to a new home and make new friends!
Such changes and options will create a number of related questions, so we have put together this list of things to know, and accompanying FAQ in the effort of answering as many of them up front as we can.
Server Merge: Darathar, Gorenaire, and Talendor to Venekor
- Naming Conflicts
- If, as a result of this server merge two or more characters have the same name, the conflict will be resolved as follows:
- If one of the characters has not logged into the game in the last 60 days, their character name will be appended with an 'x' to make it unique.
- If both characters have been logged into the game in the last 60 days, the character with the greatest amount of playtime will maintain their name.
- DE/FR players using special characters (such as the umlaut) may find their name now contains question marks because the US servers do not support these special characters. If this happens to you, please file a /petition and request GM assistance in order to obtain a new name.
- Guilds with duplicate names will be resolved using guild creation date to determine which guild keeps their name and which guild has their name appended with an 'x.'
- In Your Home
- All items in your homes will be inherited by the homes owner during the merge. If you have alts or friends as trustees to your home, have them pick up their items before the merge begins.
- If you have items in your friend's homes, be sure to reacquire them prior to the merge, or you will lose ownership during the merge process.
- After the merge any vendor items in your house will need to be re-placed in your new homes.
- You can use your house vault for storage. The items in your vault will maintain their association with your character.
- As a Vendor
- As noted above, your vendor house items will need to be placed again when you get to your new home.
- Vendor Events (the logs of what was sold, to whom, when, etc.) will not transfer.
- Until you sell something on your new server, your Total Coin Gain will read as 0. After you make a sale, it will display the sum of the total amounts of coin you gained on both servers.
- User Interface
- Your UI settings will need to be manually moved from the folder on your computer for the EU region to the folder for the US region and reapplied by loading them with the /load_uisettings command.
Server Moves: All servers as long as both have the same "ruleset"
- Naming Conflicts
- If you and another player on the target server have characters with the same name, the incoming character will have an 'x' added to its name to make it unique.
- DE/FR players using special characters (such as the umlaut) may find their name now contains question marks because the US servers do not support these special characters.
- If this happens to you, please file a /petition and request GM assistance in order to obtain a new name.
- Guilds will not be eligible for the free character transfer option. If you would like to move your guild from a server unaffected by the merge to any other eligible server, you will need to have your guild mates move their characters individually to the new server, and reform your guilds at Level 1.
- In Your Home
- You can use your house vault for storage. The items in your vault will maintain their association with your character.
- As a Vendor
- Remove all items from the broker system. You cannot move if you have anything, including containers, in the broker.
- As noted above, your vendor house items will need to be placed again when you get to your new home.
- Vendor Events (the logs of what was sold, to whom, when, etc.) will not transfer.
- Until you sell something on your new server, your Total Coin Gain will read as 0. After you make a sale, it will reset to the proper number.
FAQ:
What happens to my characters if I have hit the maximum number of characters per account for both regions? For our friends in Europe being merged into Venekor, this is a very real question to consider. It is also quite possible that people already on Venekor could be asking the same question and worrying over characters they made in Europe. To address this concern, the dev team is making a special exception for characters incoming to Venekor.
Characters created before April 1st, 2007 on Venekor, or any of the EU servers merging into Venekor will be grandfathered and not counted toward the normal six character maximum. For each such character you have, your maximum number of character slots will be increase by 1, to a maximum of 12 character slots.
Characters transferred into Venekor from other servers during the week of free character transfers will not be granted this exemption as they were not forced to merge by the process.
How many times can I move my character to a new server during this week?
For the duration of this week, you can move as many times as you wish. The only limit to this is the time it will take for the data to transfer your character to the new server.
Can I transfer my characters between accounts?
Yes, during the week of free transfers you will be able to move your character to a new account provided that you own the source and destination accounts.
Can my guild move as a part of the free character transfer week?
After the merge into Venekor, anyone wanting to move their guild to a new server will need to move their characters and then form a new guild on the destination server. The only guilds being moved for free are the ones being merged into Venekor.
Can I move from PvP to PvE servers? What about Exchange Servers?
You will not be able to move characters between servers of different rule sets. Characters on a PvP server must stay on PvP servers. If your server has more than one rule modification (PvP + Exchange) you must qualify your target server for each requirement (i.e.: Characters on Vox can't transfer servers because no other server of similar qualifiers exists.)
What happens if someone has the same name as me and I don't like how the default process renames my character?
Incoming characters with duplicate names should find an 'x' appended to their name to make it unique. International players may find that the special characters used in their native language (such as the umlaut) are not properly represented on the destination. If issues such as this affect your character after the merge or a transfer, please submit a petition at http://support.station.sony.com/petition
Please keep this information in mind as you prepare for the merge and any desired character transfers. As a helpful guide, you can view the Server Transfer Tips and the Reimbursement Policy articles in the Knowledge Base.
Thank you for your patience while the merge and transfers were getting set up, we hope you enjoy your new home!
