Nektulos Forest - Recommended lvl: 20 - 30
Nektulos Forest is dark, scary and foggy. At a rather low level you will arrive either at a bridge leading over a river that stretches across the whole zone if arriving from the Commonlands or at the docks if arriving from the Thundering Steppes. If your coming in to the zone from either direction there will be some quests you can pick up on either side, but there are more at the docks. Also while you're close to the zone entrance, don't forget to pick up the quest form the Griffon Tamer, it will make traveling far easier later on.
On the docks side of the zone, you will mostly have crabs at the shore and pirates a bit further in. From the other side you will meet a lot of undead that are lurking through the mist. In between will be where you will meet bears and snakes that are marking their territory. Conveniently located in the middle is the spire that serves as a transportation medium to the Overrealm, which we will discuss another time. As you delve deeper into the zone you should consider banding together with some others as the zone gets progressively tougher the further you go.
Progressing along the road towards Nmar's Ascent you will come across a little lake; it isn't as scary there anymore as it once was but it is still worth a look around. As we approach the big structure named Nmar's Ascent we will be greeted by plenty of undead that don't really approve of human or gnomish presence. At the top of the Ascent there is another Griffon Tamer who is seeking your help. The eggs he is looking for are now really close. Just head straight in, grab the eggs and return them while they are still warm.
From here you have several choices for further travel. You can choose to go straight ahead where the mighty fire giants roam or you can head towards the right where trees turn into deadly foes then further on towards Nektulos Castle or you can veer off somewhere in between where you will find another lake.
However these are not the only options. If you backtrack a little you will come to the river again, follow it upwards until it ends, or rather you come to its source and there you will find quests for the adventurers in the higher 20's.
Nektulos Forest does not only offer scary looks and quests though, it's also a excellent zone to harvest. Traveling is a bit restrictive though, due to little hills no one can climb and the revamp pushed it a bit to the easier side. I, however, will never forget my first run through the entire zone back then when there where no Spires and no griffons around, now that was a scary trip.
