Recently, we have caught word that mercenaries will start to offer their services in Norrath come the end of the year. We were lucky enough to grab an interview with one of these soon to be job-seeking mercenaries! Her name Vittia Direshadow and she is a Teir'dal Shadowknight. She's quite scary-looking but assures me she will not try to kill me.
Q. What made you want to become a mercenary?
A. My extensive study with the Dread Guard was extremely worthwhile but not inexpensive, and tithes to Innoruuk are not cheap either, so when I finished my training I found myself with debt still to repay. You don't want to get on the wrong side of a loan broker in Neriak, I can assure you. So, I started work as a mercenary to pay my debts, and have come to find it a valuable source of income as well as an excellent way to see the world and learn new things.
Q. How much do you charge adventurers for your services?
A. That varies depending on the mercenary and how good they are (or think they are). Personally, I don't think you can put too high a price on skill. We realize that many adventurers see us as expendable hired swords but we pride ourselves on what we can do. Therefore, you'll find our prices are reasonable, yet high enough to discourage inconsiderate employers from treating us as disposable. We generally charge per Norrathian day.
Q. What is your weapon of choice?
A. I'm quite fond of my battle axe, but I am also skilled in the use of a wide variety of deadly weapons. I have also killed many men with my bare hands for both profit and the glory of Innoruuk.
Q. What kind of food do you eat?
A. On a job, I stick with trail rations and water. It's amazing to see what adventurers have thought is appropriate fighting food, though. I've seen them running around dungeons with backpacks full of cheesecake and cherry trifle, whipped cream and octopus tentacles! It's enough to make a mercenary wonder if common sense is truly the least common of all senses.
Q. What is the most amazing adventure that you can recall?
A. Nothing can compare to my first visit to the Shard of Hate. Visiting a realm so strongly influenced by the god who created me was awe-inspiring and humbling.
Q. Where can adventurers go to find you if they need your help?
A. I make my home in Neriak but the larger cities of Freeport and Qeynos contain gathering areas where many mercenaries can be found looking for work. Once you have made contact with me, we can arrange to meet there as well.
Q. What should adventurers know about you?
A. If you need an extra axe to round out your group, there's no one better than me. But I am not some expendable necromancer's minion to be summoned and thrown away. I charge what I'm worth, and you'll pay it if you want my loyalty.
Q. What would you say is your biggest strength?
A. My expert skills are matched by none. Innoruuk has greatly blessed me to spread his hate and destruction.
